The red squirrel is one of Scotland's best loved species. However, numbers are decreasing as a result of habitat destruction and the introduction of the American grey squirrel. The Scottish Wildlife Trust's Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels project aims to halt the decline of red squirrel populations and improve conditions to allow red squirrels to thrive. An important aspect of the project is the monitoring of red and grey squirrel numbers and distribution, which helps us to target our conservation efforts. Come and learn about our squirrel monitoring methods, have a go at squirrel surveying and learn how you can become a valuable member of our squirrel monitoring team.
